My honest review of Unico Hotel in Riviera Maya (2022) (2023)

oUnique Riviera Mayait's a 5*adults only resortbeautifully located on a serene Caribbean coast with 3 pools and 5 delicious restaurants that will take you on a global adventure around the world.

During my visit to this new(ish) hotel these were some of the highlights for me.Gin-Bar(obvious), a state-of-the-art spa and above all the inevitablecultural immersion offered by this resort(more on that later).

In terms of chic decor, this hotel has certainly upped the ante by trying to redefine what all-inclusive really means...or what it is.WE MUSTmi.

1. Location

sandwiched in the middleXpu Ha de Akumal, the Unico Adult-Only Resort is in a stunning location.

This location allows you to enjoy all the benefits of a secluded and quiet stay while still being in a privileged position to enjoy the best of the Riviera Maya.

What I LOVE about this hotel for guests is the proximity.Xel-Ha– an unmissable tour for all snorkeling and wildlife lovers.

The stretch of beach where the resort is perfectly located has a special atmosphere…

It is halfway between Playa del Carmen and (the practically virgin area of) Tulum.

Of course, beaches have that rugged tropical look that we all crave on our beach vacations.

The Unique Resort is nearby1 hour and 15 minutes by carfrom Cancun International Airport.

Sure, it's a longer drive than Cancun or Playa, but it's well worth the extra miles.

in my opinion thefurther south of the Cancun airport, better. 🙂

The fact that UNIQUE 20°87° but the latitude and longitude just show how proud they are of the location.

2. Style

face logo, this hotelFeels like a boutique hotel!

Surely yes.

There are some resorts in Cancun and the Riviera Maya that I would describe as "generic" and they can feel a bit "same" after a while.

Unico is an all-inclusive product that doesn't compromise…especially when it comes to style.

ThinkHipster chic meets luxurious living.

Kudos to the interior designers on this project as they left no stone unturned.

Every little detail, from the furniture to the glassware, has been deliberately chosen to complement the room and the style of the hotel.

All you have to do is look at some of the images on this blog or take a lookTour virtualto see what I mean.

When it comes to interior design in the Riviera Maya, the Unico Hotel has set the standard for contemporary luxury.

You definitely won't miss itunstable scenarios, that is sure.

The decor pays homage to Mexican standards and design, and can best be described as "relaxed luxury."

3. Playa

The Riviera Maya region has been exposed to some algae in recent years.

So of course a lot of the questions I get about a resort are about the beach and the seaweed.

Unico is well prepared to deal with algae should it occur...

Whitney, one of our wedding coordinators, stayed here recently and said she was impressed with how well they keep the tab. To be sureThe beaches were immaculate every day..

She said that "the beach was always clean and the sunbeds were well presented".

One thing that struck me about my visit to the beach at this hotel was how basic the beach beds are compared to the rest of the hotel decor.

... It's almost like they went over budget, LOL.

I was hoping for cabanas and hammocks (beach snob) but there aren't any, which is a little disappointing. . .

However, I hope they have added a few since my last visit.

That being said, there were plenty of beds, and that's what they were.comfortable and paddedlong enough to take my usual nap.

Entering the sea you may find some small rocks but nothing serious.

The complex is separated from the beach by a small jungle bed connected by a small wooden bridge. Crossing it for the first time can take your breath away. 😉

The best part? There arekayak and snorkelin this spa Hurrah!

4 Zimmer

The rooms have aRustic and modern atmosphere!

I LOVE the wooden canopy bed frames with the modern hanging light shades.

batcheslocal mexican materialsthey were used to craft items in each room which I thought was a nice touch.

I was told that local artisans helped bring the decor of this hotel to life.

Have you ever woken up from a night saying to yourself, "I can't remember the last time you slept like this?"

Well this was one of those stays. Two words... total happiness.

The comfort level of the mattress was on a scale of probably a cloud in the sky (and I am very picky about beds)…

they even have onepillow menu!

All suites at Unico feature a patio, tropical or pool views, an outdoor Jacuzzi, and a personal host to attend to your daily needs.

In my case, I made the most of thatRoom service 24 hours.

I mean, who wouldn't love to relax in a hot tub with a view while drinking champagne and desserts?

You also have a fully stocked minibar of your choice.

In addition to conveniently located USB charging stations, a55-inch flat screen TV, high-speed WiFi, rain shower, single-lever shower and much more!

Would I stay in one of these rooms again? Well that would be a stupid question - YES!

Although it's a bit more expensive than I'd normally be willing to pay, you definitely get more than you pay for at this resort.

5. Activities and nightlife

While this hotel's service, food, and decor are definitely its strong points... I think the activities and nightlife are where the hotel falls down a bit.

From to COVID-19, orThe pools close at 7pmand not much to do at night due to social distancing rules at the moment.

That being said, that could all change very soon.

And I guess right now you just want to get out of the chaos of your home country and have some down time.

If you want to party, this is probably not the hotel for you.

However, as things are slowly improving, I've been told it will have to wait:

• live music and entertainment
• Cooking lessons

6. Eat and drink

Unico has taken the concept of all-inclusive dining to a whole new level.multisensory level.

Typically, for large all-inclusive hotels, the average number of restaurants drops to around 7-10.

Unico chose to abandon tradition and focus on quality over quantityonly 5 restaurants.

Locally sourced ingredients are a staple at all restaurants and bars, and you'll find everything from fine dining to a casual beachside buffet.

Uniquely, the hotel is implementing a rotating cooking program at the Cueva Siete restaurant to better align with the culinary innovation of modern Mexican cuisine.

Dining options include:

1. My Carisa (Italian)
2. Cave Seven (Maya-Mexican)
3. Mura House (Japanese)
4. 20, 87 (Buffet breakfast)
5. Café Inez (European coffee culture)

The food, drink and service when I was here was perfect!

I never had to turn around to get the waiter's attention, the servers worked very hard to keep me full and I never had an empty glass, which of course is the quickest way to my heart in any hotel.

7. Spa

I did not use the spa during my visit, but was able to look around.

One word... WOW!

This full-service spa pampers the mind, body, and spirit with a variety of luxurious spa treatments, including signature Unico treatments andlocally inspired beauty rituals.

You will also find a fully equipped hydrotherapy facility and a wide range of natural ingredients to create an immersive and relaxing environment.

Open every day from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Please note that you must arrive 1 hour before the scheduled time if you want to use the hydrotherapy or 20 minutes before the check-in process.
